OLD TESTAMENT SURVEY I: This course is a basic overview of the Old Testament books of Genesis through Esther. The aim is to acquaint the student with the content, message and personal application of each book, and to study the unity of all the books in the progress of revelation and redemption.
OLD TESTAMENT SURVEY II: This course is a basic overview of the Old Testament books Job through Malachi. The aim is to acquaint the student with the content, message and personal application of each book, and to study the unity of all the books in the progress of revelation and redemption.
NEW TESTAMENT SURVEY: This course is an overview of the four Gospels portraying the life of Christ. The Book of Acts is used as a historical framework for a study of the earlier New Testament letters and as introduction to its later letters and to its climax. Application of the New Testament’s teachings to our individual and corporate lives as believers is maintained throughout.
HOMILETICS - THE ART OF EFFECTIVE PREACHING: Students will learn to examine techniques, principles, and standard practices in the delivery of sermons. Students will practice delivering sermons and will critique the sermons of fellow students.
EVANGELISM AND MISSIONS: Students will examine some of the key methods that are employed in group evangelism, planning evangelistic crusades, conducting public witnessing campaigns and programs.
COGIC Doctrine: This course discusses the theological and Biblical basis of COGIC doctrine and practice. It will demonstrate why certain doctrines and practices are central to the organization.
WOMEN IN MINISTRY of THE CHURCH OF GOD IN CHRIST: This course examines the roles that women have played in the history and ministry of the Church Of God In Christ. It will also examine the lives of some of the key female leaders in the church and study the structure of the Women’s Department.
CHURCH OF GOD IN CHRIST HISTORY: This course examines the life, works and theology of Bishop Charles Harrison Mason. It also explores the origins and ministry of the Church Of God In Christ.
LEADERSHIP PRINCIPLES: This course examines the diverse variety of leadership methodologies, principles and practices. It is the foundational course for the Leadership Studies Major. Students will learn the importance of developing their leadership styles and of helping organizations develop healthy leadership practices.
Ministerial Ethics: An examination of the moral dimensions of the Christian ministry and the moral issues facing ministers in their day-to-day work. Attention is given to the minister’s personal, professional, and collegial relationships and moral responsibilities. It will address different ethical issues from a biblical and theological perspective. The course will help the student establish basic methods and approaches to maintaining high ethical standards in their lives and ministries.
Pastoral Counseling: Students will learn techniques and theories for effective interpersonal and group counseling. They will become familiar with the potential trouble areas that need to be handled with extra care and awareness, and examine the three areas of conduct where religious counselors are most likely to be sued.
TIME MANAGEMENT: This course explores time management tools and how to effectively apply them to various areas of ministry.
Legal Ramifications in Ministry: This course is designed to introduce students to areas of the law that impact ministry. The church exists in a litigious society, and it is not immune to lawsuits. The challenge to the church is to become aware of activities that expose it, its members, and its employees and volunteers to litigation risks, and to develop mechanisms to manage those risks. In this course, students will become familiar with some of the activities that have subjected the church to lawsuits, review the court’s response to the issues when raised, and examine best practices to protect the church against legal liability. THIS COURSE WILL NOT RENDER INDIVIDUAL LEGAL ADVICE.
CHURCH ADMINISTRATION: This course will examine all phases of church business administration: pastoral management, goal-setting, prioritization, time management, delegation of authority, accounting and decision making. This course will focus on the practical application of these administrative responsibilities.
Introduction to Biblical Genealogy 1: The Introduction of Biblical Genealogy is a foundation course to help students to understand and trace the identities of key families of the Bible based on the Book of Genesis. The course is designed to enhance Bible study and analytical skills; increase understanding of families, their marriages and relationships in Bible times; increase knowledge of key biblical vocabulary and terms for ancient nations and ethnic groups which appear in modern societies.
Understanding End Time Prophecy: Course Description: By the end of this semester, each student should be familiar with important concepts in Bible prophecy as it relates to both the Jewish people and the international Christian community. The knowledge and wisdom gained from this course should equip the people that know their God to be strong and do exploits. Those Christians that understand shall instruct many others (Daniel 11:32-33).
Ceremony and Ordinance Performance: This course is designed to introduce students to the history of the holy sacraments of the Church and their proper administration. The three Ordinances that are studied in the course are Water Baptism, Holy Communion, and Feet Washing. The ordinances of the church refer to those ceremonial and religious rites which were ordained or instituted by Christ. They are to be administered as visible signs of the saving truth of the gospel and received as an expression of one’s faith and allegiance to God.
